In this project (named A-Z), we were assigned into groups of three or four, and had to create a 26-page A4 booklet based on artists and art movements. Between our groups we were to decide ourselves who took on which letters and how we were going to set everything out. We were told to have at least 4 letters each.
As a team, we decided to base our booklet on artists
only, because we were more interested in artists than art movement. To decide
who had which letters, we did it equally, and split them up one letter at a
time, so when the letters are in order, it will be displayed as one letter from each of us in order, then
back to the beginning again. We didn't really do much work as a team; once we
has been assigned our letters we went away and got on with our work. However,
at one point, we had on of the letters mixed up, which was lucky I checked, or
else we would have had two of the same letter. To say we were addressed as teams, we didn't really do much team work, as we didn't really need to, however to improve we could have talked to each other a bit more and maybe peer assessed each others work.
We didn't have a lot of time for this project, only having
two weeks of class time and the rest in personal study; personally I think I
could have done with a little more time, however I did manage to get all the
work done in the space of time. From this project, I have learned about some
new artists, such as Emil Orlick and Jack Levine. I liked the way they worked,
as they were old artists. I also chose and artist called Michael Hussar, being
one of my favorite artists.
When planning out my pages,
I made sure to
contain at least two pieces of the artists work, intending to draw one of their
sketches, and a painting to show the difference sin the work each artist has
produced. Media wise, I used mainly pencil and watercolour, however I did draw
Emil Orlick's in pen over watercolour, to give it the authentic effect it had.
To improve I could have included more types of media such as tissue paper.
I feel my outcomes are alright, although I could have
done better in the time given. I feel I
could have been more detailed in the pencil sketches, however some were
from prints so there wasn't much detail to add. I also don't think I learnt anything about myself, other than when I am given a task to do, I know I can do it in the time given.
I would say L (Jack Levine) is my strongest letter, because I painted using watercolour, which is one of my favourite medias. I focused on trying to show the difference between each girl in the 'all girl band' painting.
Overall, I think the project went alright, to say we only had a short time period to do it. I enjoy being able to chose artists to paint from, and was nice to be given the brief at the beginning and then having to do everything else yourself.
